2009 Dance Concert
Hi Everyone :-) Yes, it’s that time again !!!! It’s Concert Time !!!!! Are you ready for it !!!!
Ok, this is it, the BIG concert note. This is a lot of information so please read it carefully. It should be everything you need to know regarding our concert including tickets, photo’s, DVD’s, costs and times etc.
The concert is always a fun but stressful time for me and I am sure for you all as well. Please read this note carefully, everything you need to know is on this note!! Parents, I know it is hard to be in a hundred places at once but please try to have your children at all the classes and rehearsals. It is extremely hard on teachers and students to prepare a group if children are away.
Concert Tickets
Adults - $24.00
Children - $10.00 15/u
Program - $5.00
Sorry, there is no separate fee for pensioners.
How to Purchase Tickets
The phone number is 4397 1646 (9:00am till 12:00pm through the week).
*no nail polish or tattoos etc, or body piercings (haven’t times changed !!!) this goes for concert day as well !
NOTE – parents at all times you are responsible for your own child while on the Wyong Leagues Club premises. Please use dressing rooms if this concerns you.
A Few Extra Things
Nobody panic, we can’t start a dance until you are all there so I promise we will wait. We will also have Michelle talking so there is nothing to worry about. I have put a copy of the running order on the notice board with each child’s name underneath what groups they are in.
*All hair, unless stated otherwise by teachers is to be in a low bun with a part down the middle. This is to make life easier with all the quick changes. Miss Tiff will let the babies know how to wear their hair in the next couple of weeks.
Make-up is foundation, brown eye-shadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush and red lipstick. Make-up is important as faces get washed out under all the lights. Please refer to website if you aren’t sure how to apply the make-up.
* Please keep all costumes covered at all times when your child is in the auditorium with either a cape or dressing gown.
* No tap shoes to be worn until backstage.
Fees - This term is a 8 week term.
Videos / DVD - cost $35.00 plus postage. Our concert will be videoed by Scott Williams. With this note you will receive an envelope to fill out with the information you need to know if you want to purchase a video or DVD. Please don’t hand the envelopes back to me. Please fill out your envelope and have the correct money in it and then hand it to Scott or Karen Williams either at dancing or at the Thursday night rehearsal or the night of the concert. Unfortunately they will not be taking credit card payments this year. Payments can be made by cash or cheques made out to Scott Williams.
Class Awards -This is compulsory, each child receives a small trophy. Cost for your child is $10.00. Please put this fee in an envelope and mark what it is for. Parents if I don’t receive your $10.00 then your child does not get a trophy. I would love to be able to pay for them all but I’m sure you understand that I can’t do this. I know this always causes a lot of conflict but please remember I do not charge any kind of registration fee which is normally what covers this kind of thing. I will need to receive all trophy fees by the 20th of November as this is the day I will order the trophies. Any students whose fees are later than 2 weeks from this date will be ineligible for one of the teacher’s awards.
Costume Fund - I just want to remind everyone about the costume fund. No costumes are handed out until they are completely paid for. This sometimes means that half a group receives their costumes and half don’t. So to save any heartache for your children it is best to try to have enough money in your fund to cover costumes so nobody misses out. If you would like to know the balance of your costume fund then Michelle Wilson is the person to call. Her number is 43963559. I don’t have information on your costume fund account so please don’t call me regarding this. If you have paid too much money into your costume account you will always receive a refund during the last week of term. If you would like to pay for your concert tickets from your concert fund, this is fine. Please just mark it on your envelope and I will organize it from there. . Parents, please only ring Michelle if it is really necessary, she is flat out at this time of year as I am sure you can all understand.
Shoes and Tights
Basically the whole way through shoes and tights are as follow:
Modern Groups - Pink ballet tights with leather/canvas ballet shoes.
Jazz Groups - Brown fishnets and black jazz shoes (white soft shoes for some groups).
Tap Groups - Brown fishnets and tap shoes.
Contemporary Groups - Brown fishnets with leather/canvas ballet shoes.
Classical Groups - Ballet tights (no seams) with pink leather/satin shoes.
If there is anything different to the above it will be on your costume sheet from Michelle or discussed in class with each teacher.
Satin Ballets - unfortunately Satin Ballets seem to be on their way out of the Classical Ballet world. No one stocks them very much so sadly we will start to get rid of them. Sooooo if you have satins, keep wearing them until they don’t fit you anymore. If you need to buy new shoes don’t get satins. Just grab pink leather full soles and this is where we will go from there. Ribbons will still need to be on for concerts and exams. At least it will save a bit of cash for anyone but I still think the satins were gorgeous !!!!I am aware that in the groups some will have satins and some will have leathers but eventually all will be into leathers only. This is the only way to do it.
Hair and Make-Up For your Childs make up you should be using a foundation, brown eye shadow, black eyeliner and mascara, blusher and a red lipstick. This might sound a bit much to some of you but the lights wash out the children’s faces so heavy make-up is necessary. All hair apart from the mini movers is to be done in a low bun with a part in the middle. No wispy bits and please make sure you have a lot of bobby pins packed for head pieces. Please don’t think that hats and head bands etc will just stay on because they won’t, use the bobby pins.
Concert Day If your child is only in one or two dances then they are welcome to watch the concert from the front. However, they can’t take a seat, and they must be back stage at least 3 dances before they dance. They again need to be back stage 2 dances before the finale.
All costumes are to be covered at all times if students are in the audience.
Parents, please remember you are responsible for dressing your own child.
Support- Parents, your support is very valuable, especially at this time. Please try to enjoy it. It is a lot of your time, effort and expense, something we all do for our kids. If your child is in a lot of dances it is only natural that you are at rehearsals for extra time. If you have 2 kids, it is also going to be a longer day for you. So much work goes into every concert from all sides. Things are not going to run smoothly, there will be hiccups. Please stay calm. I will not tolerate any negative outburst or unnecessary complaining. It is hard enough as it is. This should cover everything for now. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask, but before you make that phone call please double check everything in this note as your question is more than likely answered somewhere in it. Thanks Everyone,
Love Cath xxx
