



Each class is tailored to ensure every child develops at their own pace, mastering new skills while feeling supported and encouraged. Fostering confidence and creativity is a core part of the program, and we make every class fun, engaging, and full of energy. At this stage, dancers are also encouraged to participate in our Dancestepper Assistant Teaching Program—a fantastic opportunity to develop leadership skills, build self-esteem, and gain confidence both on and off the dance floor.
Our Amethyst program is designed to be inclusive and welcoming. Dancers do not need to have completed prior programs to join at any level, making it a perfect choice for both continuing students and those starting fresh. Through challenging yet enjoyable training, each dancer is given the tools to grow technically, creatively, and personally, all while experiencing the joy and excitement of dance.
Ballet Program
Our Ballet program is a beautiful introduction to dance for young learners, focusing on movement, music, and the foundations of classical ballet. Students are gently guided through basic positions, posture, and arm movements in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Ballet is wonderful for children as it helps develop strength, coordination, flexibility, balance, and musicality, while also building confidence, focus, and body awareness from a young age.
Alongside technique, dancers explore creativity through music, storytelling, and imaginative movement, encouraging self-expression and a love of ballet.
At CMDA we follow the RAD ballet syllabus.
Hip Hop Program
In our Hip Hop Program, Year One students are introduced to the fundamentals of hip-hop dance. From basic grooves to simple footwork, the program offers a fun and age-appropriate introduction to the vibrant culture of hip-hop.
Hip-hop is all about self-expression, and our classes encourage students to explore their creativity through movement. With freestyle sessions, structured exercises, and beginner choreography, children have the opportunity to build confidence, develop rhythm, and enjoy expressing themselves in a supportive environment.
Jazz Program
Our Jazz Dance Program for Year One students is a lively and fun introduction to dance, where rhythm, creativity, and expression take centre stage. Through imaginative play, creative exercises, and simple choreography, students are encouraged to explore movement and express themselves in a supportive and upbeat environment.
Jazz dance is a great way for children to develop coordination, balance, flexibility, and motor skills, while also building confidence, musicality, and a love of movement. This program focuses on enjoyment and self-expression, helping young dancers discover the joy and energy of jazz.
Acro Program
Our Acro program is a dynamic and engaging introduction to the world of acrobatics, designed to help young dancers develop strength, flexibility, coordination, and body awareness in a safe and supportive environment. Students will explore tumbling, balancing, and foundational acro skills, progressing at a pace that suits their individual abilities.
Through fun, age-appropriate exercises and guided practice, children not only build physical strength and flexibility but also gain confidence, focus, and resilience. Our program encourages creativity, encourages risk-taking in a safe setting, and fosters a love of movement, helping young dancers experience the excitement and joy of acrobatics.
Musical Theatre
Our program is a delightful introduction to the magical world of musical theatre, where singing, acting, and dancing come together to create a captivating performance experience. In our Musical Theatre Classes, students will embark on a journey to become triple threats—mastering the art of singing, acting, and dancing. Our program provides a well-rounded approach to performing arts, allowing students to explore and develop skills in all three disciplines.
Tap Theatre
Tap Dance Classes for our Citrine students, where rhythm meets fun, and every step is a beat of excitement! Our tap classes are designed to introduce your young dancers to the world of tap, offering a dynamic and joyful experience that enhances both their dance skills and love for movement.Tap dance classes are a lively and rhythmic form of dance where dancers use their feet to create percussive sounds by striking the floor with tap shoes. These classes offer a unique blend of musicality, coordination, and artistic expression
Contemporary
In our Contemporary Dance Program, students will delve into the fundamentals of contemporary dance. From expressive movements to fluid transitions, we provide a playful and age-appropriate introduction to this captivating dance form. Contemporary dance is renowned for its emphasis on self-expression and emotion. Our program encourages Year Two students to explore their creativity through movement. With imaginative play, creative exercises, and simple choreography, they'll have the opportunity to express themselves in a fun and supportive environment.
Cheer
Our Cheer Dance Program is a fun, energetic introduction to cheerleading, teaching young dancers basic cheers, chants, and arm movements. Students build rhythm, coordination, and confidence while learning the importance of teamwork, positivity, and supporting others. Through simple routines and group activities, children celebrate achievements, express themselves, and enjoy being part of a spirited, fun-filled team.
Competition Classes
Our program includes sessions dedicated to creating dynamic and captivating competition routines. Junior dancers will work with experienced choreographers to develop routines that showcase their technical skills and artistic expression. Training in performance dynamics, including stage presence, projection, and connecting with the audience, will be integrated to elevate the overall quality of their competitive performances. Dancers are encouraged to take responsibility for their roles within the team. Whether it's remembering choreography, being at all classes, supporting a teammate during challenging moves, or ensuring everyone is on the same page, dancers learn that their individual contributions directly impact the team's overall performance.
Lyrical Program
Our Lyrical classes blend the grace and fluidity of ballet with the emotional expression of contemporary dance. Students learn to connect movement with music, telling stories through lines, leaps, and flowing choreography. These classes focus on technique, flexibility, and musicality, while encouraging each dancer to express themselves creatively and confidently. Lyrical is perfect for developing artistry, strength, and a deeper connection to performance, all in a fun and supportive environment.

As such, our fee structure reflects our commitment to quality education and a nurturing dance environment. Our fees are designed to be competitive and affordable, ensuring that dance education remains accessible to all.
We offer various payment options for different financial situations, including monthly instalments and discounts for siblings or multiple classes. Additionally, we understand the importance of transparency when it comes to fees, which is why we provide detailed breakdowns of costs, including tuition, costumes, and competition fees.
Please note fees are $11 per class until you reach the capped fee.
* Additionally, CMDA charges a one-off, non-refundable registration fee of $25 per student for life. Once this fee is paid, you won’t be asked to pay it again.We believe in the value of investing in your child’s dance education and are proud to provide exceptional instruction at Cathy Makin Dance Academy.
Capped fees do NOT include private lessons or any extra costs associated with rehearsals for concerts, eisteddfod, or any extra performances.
